Business Description Airgas was originally formed in 1982 when Peter McCausland acquired the Connecticut Oxygen Corporation. The newly created company took the name U.S. Airgas. U.S. Airgas earned $182,000 on sales of $3.6 million during its first full year of operations. By March 1986, the company's sales had increased to approximately $25 million, primarily through acquisitions. In 1986, U.S. Airgas merged with Werco, a privately-owned company that manufactured protective gear and steel cylinders.
